INAUGURATION OF SHRADDHANJALI STHAL AT JAISALMER WAR MUSEUM

Lieutenant General SK Saini, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command inaugurated the ‘Shraddhanjali Sthal’ at the Jaisalmer War Museum on 18 September 2019 in memory of the brave martyrs who are a source of inspiration for our soldiers and the citizens of our nation.

The purpose of constructing the Jaisalmer ‘Shraddhanjali Sthal’ is to pay homage to the martyrs and gallantry award winners of Indian Army and also to promote in-depth awareness of the sacrifices of the soldiers. The Shraddhanjali Sthal has names of 21 Param Vir Chakra, 53 Ashok Chakra, 214 Mahavir Chakra awardees and 981 Martyrs of Rajasthan alongwith 12 gallantry award winners and 15 martyrs of the District of Jaisalmer engraved in golden letters.

The magnificent Shraddhanjali Sthal is 16 feet high and 138 feet wide, with 16 feet ‘Konark Chakra’ in the centre. The structure also has the statues of three soldiers. There are two steps to climb up the ‘Shraddhanjali Sthal’ that portrays the sanctity of the monument. 

Jaisalmer War Museum was established on 24 August 2015 and since then the museum has been continuously evolving.  The contribution of Urban Improvement Trust, Jaisalmer and Sainik Kalyan Kendra, Rajasthan is noteworthy towards the construction of the ‘Shraddhanjali Sthal’.

A number of military and civil dignitaries to include Mr Namit Mehta, DC Jaisalmer, Col BS Rathore (Retired), Zila Sainik Kalyan Adhikari and Mrs Kavita Khatri, Chairperson Jaisalmer Municipal Corporation graced the momentous occasion.
