Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari, UYSM, AVSM, SM
GOC-in-C Eastern Command & Col of the Kumaon & Naga Regts and Kumaon Scouts

 

Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari, UYSM, AVSM, SM assumed the appointment of GOC-in-C, Eastern Comd on 01 Jan 2024.

An alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, the General Officer was commissioned into KUMAON Regt on 13 June 1987. He has attended the Defence Services Staff College, Higher Defence Management Course and National Defence College, New Delhi. He is also a graduate of Swiss Army Chemical Warfare School and US Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, USA

In his 36 years of illustrious service, he has tenanted various Command and Staff appointments with a wide spectrum of operational, field and highly active Counter Insurgency profile.

The General Officer has served a Rashtriya Rifles Bn as 2IC, commanded his Battalion in active Counter Insurgency area of Assam (OP RHINO), commanded a Mountain Brigade in High Altitude Area of North Sikkim, wherein his distinguished professionalism was rewarded with Sena Medal. He commanded a Mountain Division along the LAC, wherein he was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.

The General Officer tenanted the appt of COS, HQ South Western Command and commanded a Corps in the Eastern Theatre as well as an Area, before taking over as GOC-in-C, Eastern Command. The General Officer was awarded Uttam Yudh Seva Medal for his distinguished service while commanding the Corps in Eastern Theatre. He also has the unique distinction of serving twice with the United Nations, first as a Military Observer and later as Deputy Chief of Staff at Force HQ in Democratic Republic of Congo.

The General Officer has had the privilege of tenanting prestigious appointments of Brigade Major of a Mtn Bde along Northern Borders, three tenures in Military Operations Directorate, Col General Staff of a Mountain Division in High Altitude in J&K, DDG KRA Cell in COAS Sectt and Dy MS in Military Secretary's Branch.

The General Officer is also the Colonel of the KUMAON & NAGA Regiments and KUMAON SCOUTS.

 


 
 
Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, YSM**, VSM 
GOC-in-C, Northern Command

 

Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, YSM**, VSM, an alumnus of Sainik School, Bijapur and National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla was commissioned in First Battalion The ASSAM REGT in June 1985. The General Officer is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, attended the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow and the National Defence College, New Delhi.

The General Officer has also attended courses on 'Cooperative Security in South Asia' in Sri Lanka, 'UN Senior Mission Leaders Course' in Egypt and has tenanted several key staff appointments as Brigadier General Staff in North East, as Deputy Director General CS, Quarter Master General Branch and Additional Director General, Military Intelligence (A) at Integrated Head Quarters of MoD (Army). He has also served as Director General Military Intelligence, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) and the Vice Chief of Army Staff.

The General Officer has served as Instructor at various levels in the Infantry School Mhow and Indian Army Training Team in Lesotho. His command appointments were in varied field terrains to include a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (ASSAM), an Infantry Brigade, Division and the prestigious White Knight Corps on the Line of Control (LoC). He has rich experience of both conventional and Counter Insurgency operations in Northern & Eastern theatres.

The General Officer has been awarded Param Vishist Seva Medal as Vice Chief of Army Staff, Ati Vishist Seva Medal in the White Knight Corps, Bar to Yudh Seva Medal in the Ace of Spades Division, Yudh Seva Medal in an Infantry Brigade on the Line of control, Vishisht Seva Medal and COAS Commendation Card during tenures in the IHQ of MoD (Army)in MS Branch & a COAS Commendation Card during his tenure in the Infantry Brigade on LoC. An avid reader, his military papers have been published in a number of professional journals. 

The General Officer had the privilege of assuming the mantle of the Colonel of the Assam Regt and Arunachal Scouts on 01 Mar 2021. He is married to Mrs Asha Suchindra, an educationist. He is an amateur long-distance runner, golf enthusiast and practices yoga regularly.

 


 

Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, AVSM
GOC-in-C, Western Command

 

Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, AVSM is an alumnus of Sainik School Ghorakhal, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned in 23rd Battalion of the Rajput Regiment in June 1986. He has served in Siachen Glacier, along LC both in 15 & 16 Corps and along LAC in 3, 14 and 33 Corps. He commanded his battalion twice; in Uri Sect and at Taksing in Western RALP. He commanded an Infantry Brigade along Western Borders, Army HQ Res Mountain Division along Northern Borders and Mountain Strike Corps West.


Lt Gen MK Katiyar, AVSM has done all important courses to include Defence Services Staff Course and National Defence College Course. Besides, he is also a Distinguished Graduate of National War College, USA. He has been an instructor in Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan and a Directing Staff at Defence Services Staff College. His staff appointments include a Grade 1 post in Military Operations Directorate, Brigadier General Staff appointments in HQ Corps and in HQ Central Command and Dir Gen of Staff Duties in Army HQ. Prior to taking over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Command, he was tenanting the appt of Director General of Military Operations. The General Officer is also the Colonel of the Rajput Regiment.


He is married to Mrs Shuchi Katiyar, a homemaker, and the couple is blessed with two sons; Achintya Katiyar is working in an IT Company in Bangalore and Kushagra Katiyar is pursuing graduation.


The General officer has assumed the appointment of GOC-in-C Western Command on 01 Jul 2023.

 


 

 

 

Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, UYSM, AVSM, YSM
GOC-in-C, Central Command
 

Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, UYSM, AVSM, YSM assumed the appointment of GOC-in-C Central Comd on 01 Jul 2024. 

He was commissioned in 14th Battalion the PUNJAB Regt in June 1987. The general officer is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy, Defence Service Staff College, Army War College and National Defence College. 

In a military career spanning more than 37 years, he has the distinction of tenanting key command and staff appointments, both in peace and field. The general officer has served on line of actual control at Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, on line of control in Kashmir Valley, Siachen Glacier and line of actual control in Eastern Ladakh. 

He has been an instructor at National Defence Academy, directing staff at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, military observer in Congo, Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, director force structuring at Strategic Planning Directorate, Brigadier Staff duties at staff duties directorate, Additional Director General Complaint Advisory Board in Chief of Army Staff secretariat and Director General Strategic Planning. 

He has commanded an Infantry Battalion on western borders, an Infantry Brigade on the line of control and later an Infantry Brigade group in the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the United Nations. He commanded counter insurgency force ‘Victor’ and later ‘Fire & Fury’ Corps on Northern Borders. 

He has been awarded ‘YUDH SEVA MEDAL’, ‘ATI VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL’ and ‘UTTAM YUDH SEVA MEDAL’.in addition, he is also a recipient of Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee Commendation Card and Mention-in-Despatches.

 
 

 


 

Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM

GOC-IN-C,  Army TRG Command

 

Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishist Seva Medal, Sena Medal is an alumnus of Mayo College, Ajmer, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Recipient of the coveted ‘Sword of Honour’, he was commissioned into ‘THE SCINDE HORSE’ on 19 December 1987. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad and Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. While doing Higher Defence Management Course at CDM, he was awarded the ‘Chief of Army Staff Trophy’ for standing ‘First’ in overall order of merit.

The General Officer has tenanted several key instructional and staff appointments to include instructor at NDA, Khadakwasla, Brigade Major of an Armoured Brigade, Assistant Military Secretary at Military Secretary Branch, Colonel General Staff of an Armoured Division and Area Headquarters, Colonel Quartermaster of an Infantry Division on the Line of Control, Brigadier General Staff (Operations) of a Strike Corps and Major General General Staff (Operations) & later Chief of Staff of a Command Headquarters. In his foreign assignments, he was Staff Officer at HQ Indian Military Training Team and later the Chief Military Personnel Officer at MONUSCO (UN) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

The command appointments of the General Officer include Command of his parent unit ‘THE SCINDE HORSE’, an Armoured Brigade, an Infantry Division and a Corps, all on the Western Front. He has a rich experience of both conventional and counter insurgency operations. As a young officer, he served with an Infantry Battalion in OPERATION RAKSHAK (J&K) where he was awarded the Sena Medal for Gallantry.

The General Officer was awarded Ati Vishist Seva Medal on 26 January 2022 and The Param Vishisht Seva Medal on Republic Day 2025. He is also a recipient of the Central Army Commander’s Commendation Card and UN Force Commander’s Appreciation.

The General Officer is married to Mrs Rani Sharma who is a homemaker. They are blessed with two daughters, both of whom are professionals.

Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, AVSM, YSM, VSM

GOC-in-C, South Western Command

 

Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, AVSM, YSM, VSM took over the reins of Jaipur based Sapta Shakti Command on 01 July 24.

Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, AVSM, YSM, VSM was commissioned into 18 MADRAS in December 1986. The General Officer is an alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. His illustrious career profile includes attending the Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command Course and the distinction of attending National Defence College at Thailand.

In his distinguished military career spanning over 38 years, he has tenanted numerous important and challenging command and staff appointments in Jammu & Kashmir and at the Western Front.

The General Officer commanded his Battalion in an intense Counter Insurgency environment in Jammu & Kashmir, an Infantry Brigade at the Line of Control, an Infantry Division as part of Desert Strike Corps and a Corps deployed along Line of Control in Counter Insurgency Operations in Jammu & Kashmir. His varied staff appointments include Col GS (IW) in a Corps deployed in intense Counter Insurgency environment in Jammu & Kashmir, Col GS (Ops/Air), BGS (Ops), MGGS (Ops) and COS at Command HQs. His instructional appointments include Platoon Commander & Instructor CI C at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and DS Coord at Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT), Bhutan.

For his exemplary leadership and devotion to duty towards the Nation, the General Officer was awarded with Yudh Seva Medal in 2015, Vishist Seva Medal in 2019 and Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 2024.

The General Officer is the COLONEL of THE MADRAS REGIMENT since 01 Jan 2021. He was the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Policy Planning & Force Development) prior to taking over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Shimla based Army Training Command on 01 Dec 2023.

 

 


 
   
 

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM

GOC-IN-C, Southern Command

 

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command is an alumnus of the 69th NDA Course and was commissioned into 2nd Lancers, in Dec 1986.

The General Officer is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, where he was awarded the Best All Round Student. He has attended the prestigious Higher Command Course at the Army War College and the National Defence College at New Delhi.

In his four decades illustrious career, the Army Commander has had the distinction of tenanting challenging command and staff appointments in varied operational environments. His command tenures include, command of Skinner’s Horse, one of the most renowned tank regiments of the Indian Army, an Armoured Brigade along the Western Front, a Counter Insurgency Force in Jammu & Kashmir, the Desert Strike Corps and later General Officer Commanding of Delhi Area - prior to assuming command of Indian Army’s South Western Command at Jaipur.

The General Officer’s important Staff & Instructional appointments include Brigade Major of an Independent Armoured Brigade, Assistant Military Secretary at the Personnel Branch at Army HQ, Brigadier General Staff Operations at HQ South Western Command, Brigadier Perspective Plans with the Strategic Planning Directorate and Additional Director General Weapons and Equipment, responsible for capability development of the Indian Army. He was also the Director General of Discipline and Ceremonial Welfare at Army HQ.

The General has been an Instructor at the National Defence Academy including its Assistant Adjutant and has also been an Instructor at the School of Armoured Warfare at the Armoured Corps Centre and School, Ahmednagar.

The Army Commander has had a rich international exposure.  He has been the operational officer in the United Nation Force at Angola.  He has attended the Command & General Staff Course at Paris and the Defence Acquisition Course at Naval Post Graduate School in the USA.

The General Officer is an avid sportsman and excels in Tennis and Golf.
