BRIG MANOJ A R, COMMANDANT
INSTITUTE OF MILITARY LAW, NEW DELHI

1.    Brig Manoj A R was commissioned into the JAG’s Department on 21 Aug 1993 and did his one year Infantry attachment with Inf Bn in Indo-China border at Sikkim.

2.    A well known Military Law expert, Brig Manoj A R has been regularly participating in various seminars and talks/lectures including those organized by CUNPK, UN DPKO, New York, Defence Institute of International Legal Studies (DIILS) and ICRC on Military and Allied Laws. He is an expert in the field of International Law having done his LLM in International and Constitutional Law and has also been awarded with UN Certificates on various subjects of UN peacekeeping including IHL, Human Rights, Global Terrorism, International Conflict Resolution, etc. The officer has had two UN tenures as Legal Advisor in the UN Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) and as a Military Legal Advisor in UN DPKO, New York. He has handled many complex high profile disciplinary and HR related cases besides complex and voluminous litigation during his service in Indian Army. He was also Dy JAG of HQ Western Command.

3.    He is heading the Institute of Military Law wef 22 Mar 2023, which is a prestigious and premier legal Institution – one of its kind in the whole of Asia, imparting training in Military Law and allied subjects not only to the judicial officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and other Paramilitary Forces, but also to officers from Friendly Foreign Countries. For his meritorious services as DS Coord and Instructor Cl ‘A’ at Institute of Military Law in 2011, the officer was awarded GOC-in-C, ARTRAC Commendation Card.
