The Foot Ball Team of the Madras Regiment has the unique distinction of being the First Indian Army Team to win the Prestigious Durand Cup as also the Proud Possessor of Durand Cup Twice

Outstanding Sportsman

• Sep P Thangaraj, goalkeeper of the Madras Regiment Foot Ball Team which won the All India Durand Foot Ball cup twice, in 1955 and 1958.

• He was goal keeper for India in Melbourne and Rome Olympics in 1956.

• Represented India in National Volley Ball Championship in 1957

• Represented India in IX Asian Games in 1982 in Long Jump.

• Represented India in International Kabbadi Championship at Alleppey in 1979-80. He won seven Gold Medals in National/International Kabbadi Championships.

• Represented India in Asian Track & Field Meet in Tokyo in 1981. He won Six Gold, Six Silver and Eleven Bronze Medals in National/International Athletics Championship.

• Represented India in IV th Commonwealth Hand Ball Championship at Khantan (Malaysia) in Nov 1984. He also played for India in many National/ International Hand Ball Championships.

• International Open Marathon, Thane 2002 (42 Km)- Gold

• National Open Marathon, Meerut 2006     - Silver

• Gold Medal in 1500 Mtr in South Asian Athletic Championship held at Cochin (Kerala) in Mar 2008.

• Silver Medal in 1500 Mtr in BMC Nike Elite Athletic Championship 2008 at London.

• Pune International half Marathon, 2004  - Gold Pune

•  National Marathon Cochin, 2005   - Silver

• National Half Marathon, Lucknow, 2006   - Gold

• International Marathon, Singapore, 2006 - IV posn

Standard Chartered International Marathon held at Mumbai in 2005       - Bronze

International Half Marathon held at Delhi in Oct 2006     - Bronze

Army Half Marathon held at Singapore in Aug 2008         - Silver

• Asian Grand Prix held at Bangkong in 2006 (800 Mtrs)  - Silver

• SAF Games held at Srilanka in Aug 2007 (800 Mtrs)     - Gold

• Represented India in Volley Ball in 4th World Military Games held at Secunderabad.

• Won two Gold Medals in Best Physique Championship at Army level for the year 2006 and 2007.

• Won Gold Medal and Mr India 2008 at National Level Best Physique Championship held at Meerut in Feb 2008.
