Faculty of Doctrine and Tactics (FDT)
1. Faculty of Doctrine & Tactics (FDT) comprises Tac Wing and Faculty of Studies, Doctrine & Concept Devp (FOSD & CD). Further, Tactical Wing is sub divided into the Tactical and Communication faculties. Traditionally, FDT enjoys an unparalleled reputation of being a centre of excellence amongst the gunner fraternity. The instructors posted to the FDT have to fulfil a stringent Qualitative Requirement and are invariably posted after successful command of a unit or tenure as a Principal Staff Officer in a formation headquarter to enable them to utilise their vast experience and relating tactical training to the ground realities. This inherently leads to a wise and mature learning climate prevailing in the environment that can be felt by all students and visitors.
2. The role of the FDT is to conduct courses in tactical handling of artillery in all operations of war, conduct the communication leg for the courses of Young Officers and other ranks and analyse and evolve concepts and doctrine for employment of artillery. As a consequence, the charter of the Faculty encompasses conduct of courses in tactical handling of artillery in all operations of war and terrain, including relevant staff duties aspects. The Tactical Wing also conducts the Pre Staff Mentoring Pgme (PSMP) every year for Staff College aspirants of Regt of Artillery. In addn, it provides instrs for Tactical and Staff Duties ph of DSTSC conducted at DIAT, Pune.
