1.      The roots of the present Army AD College go back to Sep 1940, when the first Indian Trg Subunit (No 1 Indian AA Tech Trg Bty) was raised under Maj R A Ronald, Royal Arty at Colaba, Bombay. The Bty mov to Karachi in Dec 1940 and recd four AA guns. Subsequently, it was renamed as No 1 AA Trg Centre. In Mar 1941, AA and Coastal Arty Wg was est as a part of School of Arty at Karachi.  The Wg was informally ref to as AA School. In 1942, the Coastal Arty School mov to Bombay, whereas AA School continued functioning at Karachi till 1947. Thereafter, it mov to Deolali and was amalgamated with School of Arty as one of its Wgs. The AD Wg commenced functioning with conduct of ten courses in 1948.

2.       With the proliferation of more Grnd Based AD Wpn Sys (GBADWS), a need was felt to have a bigger firing rg than what existed at Deolali. Accordingly, many sites were explored to reloc the AD Wg. It was finally decided to site the proposed AD Guided Msl (ADGM) School and Centre at Gopalpur-on-Sea, Odisha. This proposal was sanctioned by Cabinet Committee for Political Affairs on 25 Jul 1978 and 2728.568 acres of land was acquired. The constr of infrastructure at Gopalpur Mil Stn (GMS), which incl a Sup Dep, GE complex and KLP of an AD Regt (L/70) was completed prior to its inauguration by the then Prime Minister, Late Smt Indira Gandhi on 30 Oct 1984.  Due to various reasons, AD Wg could only mov to Gopalpur in 1989, to become the nucleus for the raising of ADGM School. The latter became functional on 01 Nov 1989 with the commencement of two offrs’ and five NCOs’ courses. In Nov 1998, the ADGM School was redesignated as Army AD College on being affiliated with Berhampur University. Army AD College provides quality trg to AD warriors covering the entire spectrum of AD ops.
