Mahavir Chakra

The Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) is the second highest military decoration in India and is awarded for acts of conspicuous gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea or in the air. It may be awarded posthumously. Literally Maha Veera Chakra means extraordinarily bravery award.


IC-1857 Captain Mistry Dara Dinshaw, MVC Posthumous

Captain Mistry as OP officer stuck to his post and pin pointed and destroyed the hostile Guns and Tanks in that sectors, till a 75MM shell hit his position killing him instantaneously.


IC 12665 2/Lt (Late Maj) Shyamal Dev Goswamy, MVC

Date of Award : 18 Nov 1962


During the battle of Chusul in the Indo-China operations of 1962, directed accurate fire on repeated attacks by Chinese, till he was grievously wounded and fell unconscious.


IC-6622 Major (Late Maj Gen) Mathur Sushil Kumar, MVC

Date of Commission : 13 Dec 1953
Date of Award : 15 Apr 1965

On 15 Apr 1965 Major Mathur effectively engaged a convoy of intruders in the Kanjarkot area end destroyed three vehicles and damaged others. Again on30 Apr he directed artillery fire towards intruders in the Biar Bet area and compelled them to withdraw in haste. In the action, a field ammunition dump and three vehicles belonging to the intruders were damaged.

 


IC- 524 Maj Gen(Retd) Mohindar Singh, MVC,MC

During the period from 9 to 23 Sep, Maj Gen Mohindar Singh displayed sound operational planning and indomitable courage which enabled the infantry brigades under his command to capture Ichhogil, Uttar Brigade and Dograi.

 


IC 4128 Brigadier (Retd) Pande Kailash Parsad, MVC
61 Mountain Brigade Group

Date of Award : 06 Dec 1971

Brig K P Pande Cdr Mtn Bde was assigned the task of clearing a well fortified posn in the Eastern Sector during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The task was successfully completed mainly due to Brig Pande’s inspiring leadership. The bde gp adv forty miles in 72 hrs, effectively bottling up the enemy and capturing key posts. Against all the relentless pressure of the enemy, the bde held on to the def until surrender by the enemy cdr.

 


IC-16177 Captain Gour Pradip Kumar, MVC (Posthumous)
Date of birth : 15 Apr 1945
Date of Commission : 02 Aug 1964
Date of Award : 14 Dec 1971

Throughout the operations, he flew round the clock missions deep inside enemy territory, directing artillery fire and obtaining vital information about the enemy.


Captain Pratap Singh, MVC (Posthumous)

Dare of Award : 26 Jan 1989

On 18 May 1988 Captain Pratap Singh who was deployed as OP officer on a post volunteered with the help of a Jawan to cut the ropes fixed by the enemy which wound have been used by them again in their fresh attempts to take the post. After descending down the ice wall, he successfully cut the ropes however in the bargain set off a booby trap and was injured grievously and succumbed to his wounds.
