School of Technical Training

1.     The School of Technical Training (SOTT) was raised in 1989, as a distinctive organization to impart advanced Technical Training to personnel of the Armoured Corps. The need for a separate establishment was spurred by the advancements in technology as also rapid expansion of the corps during the 80s.

2.     The advanced technical training, prior to 1989 was being carried out by the respective advanced training wings of the technical training regiments. These three advanced training wings were then amalgamated to form the school. The new organisation was later formalised in the peace establishment of ACC&S in 1994 and it exists till today.

3.     SOTT consists of four wings i.e. Automotive, Armament, Electronics and TTC wing. SOTT focuses on its tech training with special attention given to impart high calibre training for students of armoured corps, Mechanised Infantry, Artillery (Support), AAD, Engineers and friendly foreign countries (FFCs). The school also include an Adm and Vehicle Squadron which caters for the Administration and A & B vehicles requirement of the wings for training.

4.     The criteria for postings of persons to the wings of this school is stringent, with the min qualification being an ‘AX(I)’ grading in instructor course. These instructors form the technical expertise of the corps and are responsible to carry out trials, evaluation reports, test studies and training of the next generation of instructors.

5.     HQ SOTT was earlier co-located with the armament and electronics regiment, opposite the erstwhile Centre Head Quarter. Brig AS Sandhu was the first commander of the school of technical training. The HQ shifted to the new Key Location Plan in 2009.
