CLUBS

Considerable emphasis is laid on outdoor and other character building extra-curricular activities in the form of various Hobby Clubs at the Academy.

 

Archery      Archery has got its own historical importance. It was used as the ultimate weapon in olden times. At present it is considered a thrilling sport. This Club has been introduced with a view to encourage the Cadets to improve and sharpen their shooting skills which ultimately improves their concentration, muscle & eye coordination, making them skilled officers eventually.

 

Squash

Two squash courts available in the Academy are fully utilised by the Cadets to hone their skills and improve their game by going through a proper training regime. Cadets also compete with Cadets from other PCTAs sports competitions every year.

 

Tennis

The Cadets of Tennis club are always agog with activity on club days. The club helps Cadets to achieve a reasonable standard and graduate to higher level of proficiency for competing with the cadets of other PCTAs during Sports events held every year.

 

Music and Dramatics

The Club has a wide range of musical instruments and it provides the budding artists with the opportunity to learn both Western and Indian music. Besides music, the Cadets are encouraged to pick up and showcase the art of dramatics. The club members also put up an End of Term Entertainment Programme and also participate in OTA Ball and Band Symphony.

Golf

The usual enthusiasm of the beginners and the regular presence of the avid golfers have always kept the golf course busy with activity. The influx of eager and budding golfers with the joining of new arrivals every term has added to its swelling strength. While the Junior Term Cadets are busy in learning the basics, the Seniors constantly try to hone their golfing skills.

Boating and Rowing

It is a sport which demands sheer determination, courage, stamina and will power. With increasing popularity of aqua sports all around, the Club is very popular amongst the Cadets.

Riding

Riding, in addition to the mandatory training, is also a club activity in OTA. The Cadets are imparted training in fundamentals of horsemanship, advanced horsemanship, advanced training in obstacle courses, tent pegging and elementary jumping. The equitation section boasts of a complement of 37 horses to include tent pegging, polo ponies, show jumping and draught horses.

Shooting

The Club provides an opportunity to the Cadets to hone their marksmanship skills. The Cadets are given adequate practice in firing .22 rifle, 9 mm pistol and 9 mm Silencer Carbine. With acquisition of the new Skeet Machine and 12 bore ammunition, the sport of Skeet shooting has also been introduced. Air rifle and Air Pistol shooting has recently been introduced to provide opportunities to budding shooters.

Swimming

Cadets keen to improve their swimming or want to have a welcome splash in the blistering sun, over and above the sanctioned classes attend the swimming club bi-weekly. The PT staff train the Cadets in different strokes and forms to transform them into good swimmers. Jumps and dives are also taught to the Cadets apart from the various swimming techniques. Weak swimmers are given additional attention during the clubs.

Yoga

The ancient art of yoga has been in our culture since time immemorial. The mental and physical tranquility provided by yoga is a bliss for the Cadets considering the rigors of Academy. The tired limbs and minds have an opportunity to click the refresh button as they learn and practice various asanas under the direction of the PT ustads.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is one of the world’s most thrilling, adventurous and challenging sport. The Club introduces the Cadets to various equipment and basic techniques such as tying of knots and wing various equipment essential for rock climbing.

Photography

The Photography Club provides the Cadets with ample opportunities to learn indoor and outdoor photography. The Cadets are given exposure to emerging technologies and made to practice photography at various locations. The Club provides valuable inputs for the OTA Journal.

Ball Room Dancing

It is said that dance is the bodily expression of a person’s mind that communicates what cannot be expressed through words. The well equipped ball dance room and able coach helps Cadets regardless of their level of skill to learn the basics of various forms of dance to include Salsa and Ball Room Dance.

Go’ Game Club

 ‘Go’ Game club has been introduced recently. The Chinese game is included in the hobby clubs thereby evoking interest in the cadets in playing board games and understand Chinese way of thinking. Research shows that chess activates primarily the left hemisphere of the brain and on the other hand, the Go game activates both sides. Since the neural pathways are stimulated, they create lasting nerve connections and hence strong responses and memories.

 

Science & Tech

The Atal Tinkering Lab is being planned to be inaugurated at the Academy to encourage research and development activities in the Academy. Cadets having scholastic interests in Science and emerging technologies are nominated for the club.

Creative Writing

The cadets of this club are editorial bd members who edit the publications by Academy particularly the Academy Journal and weekly updates.

Weight Training Club

All physically weak cadets are selected and are given focused training upon their respective body parts to ensure them excel in physical/ Endurance tests.
