Partition
At the time of partition in 1947 Punjabi Musalmans who formed up to 50% of the strength in most battalions were transferred to the Pakistan Army. The deficiencies created by their departure were filled in by Gujars, who came over from the Punjab Regiments which were allotted to Pakistan.
Indo-Pak War of 1947 - 48
During the Indo-Pak War of 1947-48, three Rajput Battalions fought the Pakistani marauders in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, namely 1 RAJPUT, 3 RAJPUT and 4 RAJPUT. 17 Para Field Regiment (ex 8/7 RAJPUT) also participated in this war.
Naik Yadunath Singh displayed conspicuous gallantry and was awarded PVC (Posthumous). 3 RAJPUT under Brig Usman won six VrCs in a single day's battle atNaushera. 2 RAJPUT came in next and were employed for Lines of Communication duties around Jammu. The Regiment won one Param Vir Chakra(PVC), two Maha Vir Chakras (MVCs) and 26 Vir Chakras (VrCs) and Naushera & Zojila were awarded as Battle Honours to 3 and 4 RAJPUT respectively.
Liberation of Goa, Daman and Diu
In 1961, of the Regiment took part in the liberation of Goa, Daman and Diu. 20 RAJPUT won three Ashok Chakras in the battle of Diu Fort.
