BIODATA : LT GEN SANJEEV CHAUHAN, AVSM, YSM COMDT, OTA CHENNAI
1. Lieutenant General Sanjeev Chauhan, AVSM, YSM was commissioned into Gorkha Rifles (The Malaun Regiment) on Dec 1987. The officer has a rich experience in counter terrorism, border management, disaster management and defence resource management. His operational experience is diverse, and includes commanding a Platoon in the Siachen Glacier, a Company in Op Vijay, a Battalion in Kashmir, a Mountain Brigade in Manipur, a Mountain Division in Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and a foreign training team in Bhutan as Commandant, Indian Military Training Team.
2. He has also been a Sector Commander in UNMIS (United Nations Mission in Sudan), in the restive ‘Wilayat’ or provinces of Western Bahrel Ghazal and South Kordofan during the ‘Civil War’ in undivided Sudan. During, his service, the General Officer has held many staff and instructional appointments. He has served at The Infantry School, Mhow, Director in Perspective Planning Directorate of Army Headquarters, DACIDS (North East) at the Integrated Defence Headquarters, and the Brigadier General Staff of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The General Officer has been awarded the Ati Vishist Seva Medal, the Yudh Seva Medal, the Chief of Army Staff Commendation, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Commendation (thrice - Northern, Western and Training Commands), and Force Commander’s United Nations Mission (Sudan) Commendation.
3. The officer has also received Citations’ from the Governors of South Kordofan (Sudan), Central Equatoria (now, South Sudan), and Arunachal Pradesh (India) for ‘Civil-Military Cooperation’. During his tenure as Commandant IMTRAT, Gen officer assisted and supervised the UN mission deployment for First ever contingent of Royal Bhutan Army and prepare the roadmap for implementation of Computing and Cyber Security Module of National Service Programme in Bhutan. For his dedication and selfless efforts, The General officer received Letter of Appreciation from His Majesty The King of Bhutan, Chief Operations Officer, Royal Bhutan Army and Ambassador of India to Bhutan.
4. The officer is academically inclined and holds two master’s degree in ‘Defence Studies’ and ‘Business Administration’. He has also been a ‘Senior Research Fellow’ at India’s oldest think tank, ‘The United Service Institution of India (USI)’, where he published the highly-acclaimed book - “China’s Strategic Behavior”. He is a prolific reader and has been a regular contributor in defence-related issues.
5. The General Officer is married to Mrs Rupa Chauhan and the couple is blessed with a daughter, Ms Aishwariya Chauhan. Mrs Rupa Chauhan is an educationist with an experience of twenty six years and is presently heading the leading Swedish School, ‘Kunskapsskolan International’ in Gurugram. Their daughter Ms Aishwariya Chauhan is a manager at ‘Invest India’, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Government of India.
6. Lt Gen Sanjeev Chauhan AVSM, YSM assumed the appointment of Commandant Officers Training Academy, Chennai on Jun 2022.
