History

1. The War Memorial at Artillery Centre, Nasik Road Camp stands majestically on a 5000 square feet area near the Centre Parade Ground. The concept of this War Memorial was conceived by Lt Gen K Surendra Singh, the then Director General of Artillery during 1979. The noble task of constructing this memorial was shouldered by Col RK Nanda, AVSM, the Centre Commandant in 1979.

2. This monument was constructed at the cost of 6.74 lacs in 1980 by Mr GJ Matre, Architect of the Associate and Associate Co. All ranks from the Artillery Centre, Nasik Road Camp had borne the major portion of the expenditure through voluntary contributions.

3.    On the eventful day of 19 May 1981, in a colourful and impressive dedication ceremony, Gen OP Malhotra, PVSM, AVSM, the then COAS and Senior Colonel Commandant laid a wreath to dedicate the monument, glorifying the Gunner Martyrs who laid their lives for the safety and honour of the Nation. Today this War Memorial stands majestically to inspire and motivate all Gunners to ever keep their Flag flying high.

4.   The monument is surrounded by rose beds with an imposing Jaffrey structure at its back. The granite entrance gate is located at the centre of an Imposing ornamentally built wall. On either side of the tarmac Centre path are the hedges of green seasonal flowers and roses at their full bloom adds to personifying the glory of those who sacrificed their lives, to inspire the living.
