Operations
Surya Command is geographically the largest command of Indian Army. It spans across eight states from the mighty, rugged peaks of Himachal & Uttarakhand to the serene beaches of Odisha. The Formations and Units of the Command actively participated in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, 1999 Kargil War & anti-terror operations in Jammu & Kashmir for specific durations from time to time. Apart from this, the formation has played a critical role in maintaining the operational & logistic balance during all wars & critical operations which have taken place since its raising.
In its present avatar, Surya Command operates over some of the toughest terrain in the world. A key component of the Northern Front, it is responsible for sanctity of over 500 kms of the borders with China.
Apart from maintaining vigil & securing the nation along the Northern borders, the Command is also extensively involved extensively in training of Indian Army personnel for carrying out various operations. The Command also trains with foreign armies through a large number of joint exercises conducted within the Command theatre and abroad.
Beside conventional operations, Surya Command remains perpetually involved in aid to civil authority for flood relief, avalanche, cloud bursts, disaster relief & Humanitarian assistance operations.
