War Memorials

SMRITIKA WAR MEMORIAL AT LUCKNOW
 
To commemorate the gallant acts of soldiers belonging to Central Command, who laid down their lives in the defence of our nation, War Memorial was constructed in 1993, next to Surya Auditorium along MG Road. It is one of the most picturesque and suitable locations in Lucknow Cantonment. 
 
Aptly named ‘Smritika’, the foundation stone of the magnificent memorial was laid by the then COAS, Gen SF Rodrigues, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC on 05 Jun 1993 and was inaugurated by Lt Gen YN Sharma, GOC-in-C Central Command on 31 Mar 1994 in a grand yet solemn ceremony. 
 
Well laid out lawns and a beautiful garden with various varieties of all weather flowers greet the visitors on their arrival to ‘Smritika’. The various stone structures are well lit by strategically placed flood lights and the entire effect puts the visitor in a becalmed state of mind, wherein only pure thoughts abound.
 
 
SHATRUJEET WAR MEMORIAL AT AGRA 
 
To commemorate the gallant acts of Paratroopers, who laid down their lives in the defence of our nation, War Memorial was constructed in 1991, at Agra. Memorial was made of Agra Eastern Baked Bricks, set up on the Chambal sand and over laid with Dholpur sandstone. 
 
The Shatrujeet memorial was constructed by 411(I) Para Field Company (The Bombay Sappers) and in recognition of the tradition of the valour of the Para fraternity was presented to 50 Independent PARA Brigade on its Golden Jublee on 26 Oct 1991. Memorial was beautified by replacing sandstone with exquisite black granite in Sep 2009. 
 

THE GRENADIERS WAR MEMORIAL AT JABALPUR
 
The GRENADIERS War Memorial at the GRENADIERS Regt Centre, Jabalpur is the representation of the glory of the GRINDERS in their historically “unpa allel” tradition of valour, bravery and secularism Designed initially by Lt Col ( Retd ) CP Diddi and constructed in the 1981 , the memorial was inaugurated by Lt Gen SL Menezes , PVSM 24 Nov 1981.
 
It was redesigned and reconstructed in the yr 2010 while concept of the War Memorial was kept as that of the original one. The monument stands on a broad tapered base which is almost thirty feet high symbolizing the bed rock on which the Regimental ethos are built. 
 
The monument has been constructed in black, white and French grey colour which represent Regimental colours of GRENADIERS.
 
 
 
PRERNA STHAL WAR MEMORIAL AT DEHRADUN 
 
Inaugurated on the occasion of Vijay Diwas 2022, in memory of martyrs of Golden Key Division, Prerna Sthal is located in Clement Town, Dehradun, overlooking the iconic 'Kala Ground' of erstwhile Joint Services Wing. 
 
The maintenance free aesthetics of the Memorial is made up of marble on which golden letters reading out the names of fallen hero's of 1965 and 1971 operations have been inscribed. Crafty portraits and Gita verses on the walls complete the solemn architecture of the Memorial, which inspires all ranks to realise the formation motto ‘Golden Key to Victory’.
