Physical fitness implies a sound and active mind in a fit and healthy body and is the main foundation upon which the qualities essential in a soldier are built up and developed. Broadly speaking, mental and bodily fitness are the products of exercise, mental and physical, suitably regulated to the existing development and condition of the individual. Every form of military training entails mental and physical exercise. It is the aim of training to ensure uniformity of development and coordination of mind and body.
Physical training and physical activities are tailored towards the end of achieving harmony in life. The Army Institute of Physical Training is a mother institution of the Corps and it is from the esteemed portals of this Institute that all personnel comprising the rank and file of our elite Army obtain basic & advanced instructions on all matters relating to professional competence.
As Physical fitness is a unit based programme tailored for the individual soldier, it is important that it is consistently conducted throughout Army. It is with this end in view that the Army Institute of Physical Training imparts standardized instructions on all aspects of physical & recreational training. The Army Institute of Physical Training is forever applying itself to evolve and develop training methods which combine efficiency in performance with sustained interest , and caters to the varied needs of our soldiers employed in a diverse service conditions. The acid test of all military training is performance in war.
There are no 'runners-up in battle' , therefore success remains the only denominator for victory. The AIPT is ever endeavouring to keep abreast with growing development in weapons technology vis-à-vis their impact on the soldier and is maintaining the balance in the man-machine mix. The precept of the 'Man behind the Gun' is our rationale and our instructional staff strives to develop and maintain the physical profile of the soldier amidst changing perceptions of service life.
