Skin Care

  • To avoid irritation and infection, wash the stump every night with mild soap and warm water and pat dry. The soap film should be rinsed off with plain water in mornings.

  • Do not shave your residual limb. Only use softening cream when skin is at risk of cracking or peeling.

  • Healed incision scars should be mobilized to keep from adhering.

  • Do not add soft material such as wool to pad a sore spot

  • Prosthetic socks must be worn carefully to avoid wrinkles and dog-ears else they could cause skin problems Be aware of the socket fit. Reduction in size of the stump can be accommodated by adding more prosthetic socks to avoid friction and skin trauma Use fewer thicker socks instead of more number of thin ones. Try to maintain a constant body weight.
