Platinum Jubilee and Thereafter

The intervening period between the Diamond and the Platinum Jubilee was a period of expansion for the IMA, both in terms of numbers of Gentlemen Cadets with supporting infrastructure, content of syllabus and approach to training keeping the revolution in military affairs taking place in the world, in view.

The Platinum Jubilee year of the Academy began in January 2007, and the Academy geared up to celebrate the jubilee over the entire year. The activities comprised a run for Jim, a blood donation camp, a mountaineering expedition to Mount Bhagirathi II, a white water rafting expedition in the Ganga, a multi safari expedition including bicycles, camels, horses and Maruti gypsies in the deserts, a motor cycle expedition through the highest motorable pass at Khardungla (18500ft) to the Siachen Base Camp.

These events were supplemented by the release of a First Day Cover by Major General (Retired) BC Khanduri, AVSM, an IMA alumnus, and the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

This was also the occasion for Javed Akhtar, a noted lyricist to pen a song, which has been adopted as the IMA song in October 2007.The Jubilee Year culminated with the Grand Finale on 10 December 2007, with the Platinum Jubilee Passing out Parade being reviewed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
