1. Remount Veterinary Corps Centre and College (RVC C&C) is the ‘alma mater’ of RVC comprising of the College component (Category ‘A’) and Centre element (Category ‘B’). The College imparts training in various disciplines related to veterinary sciences, dog and equestrian training to officers and men of RVC, other arms and services, Para military Forces and Friendly Foreign countries. The Centre imparts basic military and technical training on commissioning to young veterinary graduates. It also imparts basic military and technical training to recruits of various trades in RVC viz. nursing Assistant Veterinary, Rider, Army Dog Trainer, Clerk, Farrier, Laboratory Assistant Veterinary and Kennel man.

History
2. RVC traces its history back to year 1779. However, the recorded history of the RVC C&C is accessible from 1920 only. Army Veterinary School functioned at Poona till 1929 before it moved to Ambala. It further, shifted to Sabathu in 1947 and to the present location at Meerut in 1948. On amalgamation of military Farms with RVC and merger of Army Equitation School at Saugar, the designation of the Centre was changed to Remount Veterinary and Farms Corps Centre and School. Subsequently, on separation of Military Farms in 1960, the Centre was re-designated as RVC Centre and School. In 2005, RVC Centre and School was re-designated as RVC Centre and College. The establishment was conferred with ‘General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command Unit Citation’ on the occasion of Republic Day 2016 for exceptional contribution of sustained meritorious performance in the field of men and animal training and methodologies.

3. Veterinary Training Faculty. The Veterinary Training Faculty is premiere Category ‘A’ segment of the establishment. The faculty is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting courses for RVC, RVC, Central Armed Police Forces and officers from Friendly Foreign countries in diverse discipline to keep them abreast with the latest developments in the field of Veterinary sciences. The faculty conducts courses pertaining to specialization in equine and canine surgery, medicine, animal management, and farriery. In addition, the faculty also manages Information Technology assets and training, conducts Junior Command Courses for RVC Officers. Adhoc Faculty of Studies managed by faculty is responsible to carryout studies, work on new concept building and analysis based on various assignments given by Army Training Command. Under modernization plans faculty has taken many innovative steps like starting Out patient Department facility, standardization laparoscopic spaying technique, phacoemulsification etc. the farriery Squadron of the faculty imparts basic and advanced farriery training and conducts up gradation cadre courses for farriers.

4. Dog Training Faculty. The faculty is responsible for breeding, rearing, training and issue of Army dogs to various Dog Units of Indian Army. Faculty is also responsible to impart basic and specialized training to Army Dogs and their trainers in various discipline viz Explosive Detection, Tracking, Guard dog, Infantry patrol, Avalanche Rescue Operations, Assault & Room Intervention and Search & Rescue Operations. Faculty runs various courses for all ranks of three services, Para Military Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and Friendly Foreign Countries on training and deployment of dogs, handling including kennel man course. The caculty is in addition mandated to provide dogs for internal security duties by Directorate General Military Operations and to organize dog demonstrations by Quarter master General’s Branch, Integrated HQ of Ministry of Defence (Army) at various institutions. With the ongoing national concept of ‘make in India’ Mudhol Hound Dogs were trained for Explosive Detection and now deployed with dog units. A ‘Canine Geriatric Care & Rehabilitation Centre’ has also been established to provide care & management to the cast and boarded out Army Canines post their retirement from active military service to rehabilitate them for rest of their life. In the recent endeavour to counter pandemic challenge, dog Training Faculty has successfully pioneered training of COVID-19 Detection Dogs in the country. With state of art infrastructure for Dog Training, Faculty was awarded the “Centre of Excellence” in Dog Training on 12 Mar 2013 by HQ, Army Training Command.

5. Equitation and Animal Management Faculty. Faculty imparts basic and advanced training in equitation and animal management to all ranks of the Corps, other Arms and Services, Indian navy, Indian Air Force, Central Armed Police Forces and Friendly foreign Countries. Institution is one of its kind in the country wherein world class training infrastructure and facilities are available to impart basic and advanced equitation training to horses & riders. In addition faculty is contributing vastly towards promotion of equestrian sport by organizing national and international equestrian championships. Faculty also manages the Army Equitation node established in 2002 for training of elite riders of Indian Army. Besides, the faculty is entrusted with the mandate of activation and maintenance of Equine disease Free Zone for pre-export quarantine of sporting horses of the national equestrian team for international equestrian competitions. Further, it also undertakes equines training of Boys Sports Company sports cadets for excelling in equestrian sports.

6. Centre/ Training Regiment. The Centre imparts Basic Military Training to all ranks of the Corps including post commission training to Remount Veterinary young Officers. It conducts various up gradation and promotion cadre courses for Junior commissioned Officers/ Other Ranks. The Centre furthermore performs the functions of Depot for all junior Commissioned Officer/ Other Ranks of RVC as and when they superannuate from service on completion of their terms and conditions. The Centre is also responsible for recruitment against Unit Headquarter quota. The boys Sports Coy raised in 2002 at establishment is also managed by Centre.

7. Army Equestrian Node. The Node was established at RVC C&C, Meerut in Jun 2002 under Chief of Army Staff “Mission Olympics” program. The aim is to train selected horses and riders of Indian Army to win medals at National and Internation events. Since inception, the node has grown-up multifold and produced medal winners at international events with the latest being the Team Silver medal in Eventing discipline at Asian Games- 2018. The silver medal winning team comprised of three riders of the AEN. The Node with its world class cross country courses, flood-lit show jumping & dressage arenas and international standard show jumping fences has the best available infrastructure in the Country for training of horses and riders. The Node also has the newly developed Equine Sports Medicine Cell with latest therapeutic equipment for scientific assessment and training of sport horses. Faculty helps the horse and rider combination to achieve peak potential and longevity in performance. In addition to routine training under instructional staff, coaching camps under foreign coaches are organized to enhance the riding skills and prepare for international competitions. Over the years, the riders of the Node have consistently achieved podium finishes. Winning a total of 108 x Gold, 107 x silver and 108 x Bronze medals in various nationals events and a total of 42 x Gold, 36 x Silver and 43 x Bornze in International/ FEI Events.
8. Boys Sports Company (BSC). BSC concept is a joint venture of Sports Authority of India and Indian Army, with an aim to select and groom potentially talented young boys of age groups 8-14 years. BSC, RVC C&C, Meerut started in 2005. Since it’s raising, 93 boys with raw talent and no equestrian exposure have been inducted and groomed to be potential riders. The selected cadets are trained in equestrian sports by making use of equitation infrastructure, education till class X and enrolled in Indian Army as soldiers. BSC at RVC C&C has nurtured 66 Sowars (Riders) into Indian Army (RVC), who are continuously excelling in Equestrian sports competitions. The achievements of cadets have been noteworthy at various national as well as international level competitions. At junior national level, they have won 114 x Gold, 112 x Silver and 104 x Bronze medals since inception. It’s pertinent to mention that two ex-sports cadets participated in 18th Asian Games (2018) and won Silver medals for the country.
