DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT
The role of Directorate General of Capability Development is to plan procurements of all Weapons and Equipment for modernisation of the Indian Army. The Directorate is headed by a three star General and is organized in Policy Section and Procurement Sections.
Charter of Responsibility
1. Planning and laying down priorities for modernisation and up-gradation program.
2. Scaling of Equipment.
3. Liaisons with Public Sector Units for Research and Development projects undertaken for the Army to include aspects of procedure.
4. Responsibility for Coordination regarding equipment, include provisioning and maintenance.
5. Trials of New equipment/ weapon systems and major products.
6. Contract Negotiation of cases.
7. Liaison with Line Directorates for procurement related issues.
8. Monitoring of all capital procurement cases.
9. Render advice on Procurement related issues.
10. Policy on Handing/Taking over of Weapons / Equipment and vehicles by units and relief.
11. Management of Class A stores and ammunition including Loan and Sector Stores.
