Welfare of Nepal Domicled Gorkhas of Indian Army

1.   Indian Ex-Servicemen Welfare Organization in Nepal (IEWON). Indian Ex-Servicemen Welfare Organization in Nepal (IEWON) is an organization instituted for planning and conduct of welfare of Nepal Domiciled Gorkhas (NDG) meets annually at Kathmandu, Nepal under the aegis of Adjutant General’s Branch. The meeting is attend by Govt of Nepal officials, Indian Army delegation from Integrated Headquarters of Min of Defence (Army) and representative of Military Wing, Embassy of India, Nepal. During the meet, review of all welfare schemes/projects executed during the year besides discussions on future projections/other issues related to the welfare of Ex-servicemen in Nepal are conducted. The issues related to Govt of Nepal are discussed with Govt of Nepal officials during the meet. The Ambassador of India to Nepal is the Chairman and its annual meet is held at Kathmandu, Nepal under the aegis of Adjutant General’s Branch.


2.   Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Facility to Nepal Domiciled Gorkhas Ex-Servicemen. The introduction of ECHS and ineligibility of Nepal Domiciled Gorkha Ex-Servicemen under its provisions had rendered approximately 1,00,000/- Nepal Domiciled Gorkha Ex-Servicemen without any medical cover since its implementation in year 2006. The sanction for extension of ECHS facilities to Nepal Domiciled Gorkha Ex-Servicemen has been accorded.

3.   CSD Facility to Nepal Domiciled Gorkhas Ex-Servicemen. In the absence of any authority, Nepal Domiciled Gorkha Ex-Servicemen settled in Nepal were denied Canteen Stores Department facilities in certain canteens near the Indo-Nepal border. The case was pursued with Canteen Stores Department facilities have now been extended to cover Nepal Domiciled Gorkha Ex-Servicemen settled in Nepal by Quarter Master General’s Branch.

4.    GRTU Raiwala. GRTU Raiwala was set up in 1973 on the directions of the then COAS, Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, Padma Vibhushan, PVSM, DSO, MC to impart vocational training to Gorkha soldiers serving in the Indian Army to provide them addl sustenance and livelihood an retirement/ release from service. Following courses are conducted at the est:-


(a) Welding and Fabrication.
(b) Driving and Auto Repair.
(c) Constr and Plumbing.
(d) Electrical and Refrigeration.
(e) Security.
(f) Carpentry.
(g) Electronic Appliance Repair.
(h) Agriculture.
