Asha Schools

AN INITIATIVE FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN

Asha schools for differently abled children of serving and retired personnel have been established under the aegis of AWWA since 1991 at different stations to provide education and rehabilitation training to these special children. Over the years there has been a steady increase in the number of such schools and students. There are thirty nine Asha Schools at present. These schools are funded by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MOSJE) and supported by Army Wives Welfare Association. Grant-in-aid is being provided by MOSJE based on inspection report by the Ministry every year. Army Welfare Society, AG’s Branch acts as an interface between MOSJE and Asha Schools. Management responsibility of these schools rests with the local management committees constituted as per SOP issued by Central AWWA Secretariat and administrative support is being provided by local units.
